Lakland Musical Instruments was founded in 1994 and grew out of a fairly successful used bass business run by company founders Dan Lakin and Hugh McFarland. From the very beginning, Lakland worked closely with Bartolini, which is how they found their way to the NAMM show. And although Lakland basses are high-end instruments of outstanding quality, it was still a long and thorny road before one could find names like Donald "Duck" Dunn, Adam Clayton, Mike Gordon, Geezer Butler, Pino Palladino, and Darryl Jones on the now lengthy Lakland user list.
Lakland also enjoys great popularity among relatively younger bands like Incubus, The Subways, Papa Roach, and even in the electronic music scene, such as trip-hop icon and Massive Attack guest Tricky, due to its first-class craftsmanship and rather tight, modern sound. Since the introduction of Lakland's flagship models in the mid-1990s, these basses have become the most respected instruments in the studio and on stage, now favored by discerning players and professional artists around the world. The vintage comfort and contemporary refinement of the Skyline models are characterized by outstanding sound, playability, and construction, offering an unparalleled playing experience!
The Skyline Series 55-60 "Vintage J" features many of the same features as the USA Series 55-60 Bass, including the famous 35" scale Lakland neck and the same passive Lakland J-style pickups, hand-crafted and precision-wound in the Custom Shop in Chicago. The Vintage 60s layout includes passive volume/volume/tone controls.
