Ashdown is known for its amplifiers and effects units, which it produces primarily for basses but also for guitars. The British manufacturer is located in Chelmsford, Essex, England. Ashdown was founded in 1997 by Mark Gooday, chief engineer and manager of Trace Elliot, who designed the logo after the motor badge of the sports car brand Austion-Heale. Ashdown's unwavering focus on design and innovation is clearly visible in its product range: tube and hybrid amplifiers, combos, practice amps, effects pedals and more! Ashdown Engineering remains true to its roots, today as it was in 1997! Essentially, the Triple Shot is three individual distortion pedals in one! The signal from the instrument is split into three different frequency bands ("Dark", "Mid" and "Bright") and fed into three distortion generators. Each band has its own level control ("Roast") before being recombined to create a complete signal. Therefore, it is possible to retain and boost the low frequencies of the bass sound with a thick overdrive sound, enrich the upper frequencies with high treble - or take the two extremes and mix them to get a wide range of distinct tonal variables.
With all the Roast controls set to the left, this is a simple, independent EQ. However, using each of the Roast controls in unison with the corresponding Dark, Medium or Light control, you can vary the drive extremely: from a slight tickle in the midrange to a rich, overdriven high-gain bass sound!
