Sheldon Dingwall has been producing instruments in Saskatoon, Canada, since the late 1980s. After initially crafting custom necks and bodies for musicians in local bands, he introduced his first bass model, the Voodoo Bass, in 1993.
The goal is simple: Dingwall wants the hair on the back of your neck to stand on end every time you play one! For their team of craftsmen, instrument making is the most fascinating and fulfilling experience imaginable. It's the meeting point between the technical world of physics and engineering and the emotional world of soul and passion. Instruments from centuries ago are still treasured today and passed down from generation to generation. Dingwall believes their instruments will carry the same legacy. For this reason, each instrument is crafted with passion and reverence.
Fan frets make all the difference! Dingwall basses are synonymous with great tone, definition, and the "Best Bass in the Business!" Bass players who use a Dingwall in the studio or live only hear praise from sound engineers. Why? Because of the fan-shaped fret system! It's all about the great fundamental tone this system produces: even tension from string to string, powerful fundamentals with no bad overtones, and no slack B-string! Just like in a grand piano... the lower strings are longer and the higher strings shorter! This creates the right tension and length for each note to sound authentic.
