Sheldon Dingwall has been crafting instruments in Saskatoon, Canada, since the late 1980s. After initially making custom necks and bodies for local bands, he introduced his first own bass model, the Voodoo Bass, in 1993.
The goal is simple: Dingwall wants the hairs on the back of your neck to stand on end every time you play one of these basses! For his team of craftsmen, instrument making is the most fascinating and fulfilling experience imaginable. It's the meeting point between the technical world of physics and engineering and the emotional world of soul and passion. Instruments from centuries past are still valued today and passed down from generation to generation. Dingwall believes their instruments will have the same legacy. That's why every instrument is crafted with passion and reverence.
Fan frets make all the difference! Dingwall basses are synonymous with great tone, definition, and the "best in the business!" Bassists who bring a Dingwall bass to the studio or live venues consistently receive praise from sound engineers. Why? Because of the fanned fret system! It's all about the superb fundamental tone this system produces: consistent tension from string to string, powerful fundamentals without harsh overtones, and no slack B string! Just like in a grand piano... the lower strings are longer and the higher strings are shorter! This creates the perfect tension and length for each note, resulting in an authentic sound.
