Sheldon Dingwall has been crafting instruments in Saskatoon, Canada, since the late 1980s. After initially producing custom necks and bodies for local musicians, he introduced his first proprietary bass model—the Voodoo Bass—in 1993.
The goal is simple: Dingwall wants the hair on the back of your neck to stand up every time you play one of their instruments! For their team of craftspeople, building instruments is the most fascinating and fulfilling experience imaginable. It represents the intersection of the technical worlds of physics and engineering with the emotional realms of soul and passion. Instruments made centuries ago are still cherished today and passed down from generation to generation; Dingwall believes their instruments will share that same legacy. That is why every instrument is crafted with passion and reverence.
Fanned frets make the difference! Dingwall basses are synonymous with great tone, definition, and the "best B-string in the business." Bassists who bring a Dingwall to the studio or the stage hear nothing but praise from sound engineers. Why? Because of the fanned-fret system! It is all about the magnificent fundamental tone this system produces: consistent string-to-string tension, powerful fundamental notes free of unpleasant overtones, and no flabby B-string! Much like a grand piano... the low strings are longer and the high strings are shorter! This creates the ideal tension and length for every note to sound authentic.
The Nashville Edition is equipped with three FD3n pickups and a Rupert Neve Designs preamp, as well as a 3-way mini-toggle switch and a blend control. This setup allows for quick access to an isolated P-style sound, a blend of bridge and neck pickups for classic J-style tones, or a combination of all three pickups for a beefier, humbucker-like growl.
In active mode, the bass and treble controls simply enhance the qualities of these pickups, rounding out the overall package to create a fantastically dynamic, highly playable bass that offers the versatility of a Swiss Army knife.
