Lakland Musical Instruments was founded in 1994, growing out of a successful used bass business previously run by founders Dan Lakin and Hugh McFarland. From the beginning, Lakland worked closely with Bartolini, which led to their appearance at the NAMM Show. And although Lakland basses are high-end instruments of exceptional quality, it was a long and arduous journey to reach their now extensive user list, which includes names like Donald "Duck" Dunn, Adam Clayton, Mike Gordon, Geezer Butler, Pino Palladino, and Darryl Jones.
Even among relatively newer bands like Incubus, The Subways, and Papa Roach, as well as in the electronic music scene, including trip-hop icon and Massive Attack guest artist Tricky, Lakland enjoys immense popularity due to its first-class craftsmanship and tight, modern sound. Since the introduction of Lakland's flagship models in the mid-1990s, these basses have become some of the most highly regarded instruments in the studio and on stage, now favored by discerning players and professional artists worldwide. The vintage comfort and contemporary refinement of the Skyline models are characterized by outstanding tone, playability, and construction, offering an unparalleled playing experience!
The Skyline 44-64 shares the same aesthetics and Lakland split-coil hybrid pickup as the USA Series version. It captures the rich and defined power of the early basses that revolutionized the world of four-string basses. The tone and power of a well-preserved vintage instrument with immaculate Lakland fretwork and neck finishes make it a modern classic. The 44-64 Custom PJ adds a single-coil "J" bridge pickup to the 44-64 for added versatility. Additionally, the Custom features a 1.5" (J) neck taper with pearl block inlay markers, matching headstock color, and a rosewood fretboard.
