Lakland Musical Instruments was founded in 1994, growing out of a successful used bass business previously run by founders Dan Lakin and Hugh McFarland. From the beginning, Lakland worked closely with Bartolini, which led to their appearance at the NAMM Show. And although Lakland basses are high-end instruments of exceptional quality, it was a long and arduous journey to reach their now extensive user list, which includes names like Donald "Duck" Dunn, Adam Clayton, Mike Gordon, Geezer Butler, Pino Palladino, and Darryl Jones.
Even among relatively newer bands like Incubus, The Subways, and Papa Roach, as well as in the electronic music scene, including trip-hop icon and Massive Attack guest artist Tricky, Lakland enjoys immense popularity due to its first-class craftsmanship and tight, modern sound. Since the introduction of Lakland's flagship models in the mid-1990s, these basses have become some of the most respected instruments in the studio and on stage, now favored by discerning players and professional artists worldwide. The vintage comfort and contemporary refinement of the Skyline models are characterized by outstanding tone, playability, and construction, offering an unparalleled playing experience!
The 55-02 has an active punch that propels your sound clearly through any mix, with first-class tonality for versatile and sophisticated adaptation to any playing situation. Whether your gig is in a pub or the local arena, the 55-02 delivers 100% pure tone every night. This custom model features a Black Sparkle finish with a matching headstock and a 35" scale maple neck with an ebony fingerboard. The LH3 pickups and built-in preamp are the same components found in the USA 55-94 series. They are powered by a single 9-volt battery, which can be easily replaced by removing a simple, snap-in battery cover (no more lost screws!). Internal DIP switches allow you to adjust the frequency for boosting and cutting the midrange.
